Introduction –

I have been involved in Brittany’s since 1988.  At that time we acquired May-Jay’s PDQ Rapide Chien, Petey, our first Brittany.  We found he was from a good conformation background.  He father was a breed winner at Westminster Kennel Club.  So I entered the world of Conformation Dog Shows and took Petey to his championship before he reached the age of two.  We then became involved with Hunting Tests and acquired a Junior Hunter title on Petey as well.  From there I was hooked.  I have been involved in the Brittany world ever since.  I am a member of the American Brittany Club, I am the regional Secretary of the Anthracite Brittany Club and I am also a member of the American Kennel Club and the Lehigh Valley (All Breed) Kennel Club.   Showing in Conformation, Obedience, Rally and Hunt testing, all of our dogs are well rounded examples of the Breed.  We are not a kennel or casual breeders.  We are certain that we have at least a few homes on our waiting list before we plan a litter.  Our dogs are home raised, well-loved, well-socialized and wonderful companions to us.

Mission –

We chose to begin a breeding program in 1994 because we felt we could contribute a positive impact to the Brittany’s from what we could produce.  We began with a good foundation Bitch.  Ch. Mt. View May-Jay’s Antionette, JH is a well-mannered and great tempered bitch with correct movement who we purchased from Mary Ann Breininger, Mt View Brittany’s.    She was a keen huntress and did everything she could do to please us.  We bred her to the Number one dog in the country at that time and as of 2007, he is the still the number one Brittany of all time.   “Ollie”, Ch Jordean All Kiddin' Aside has beautiful conformation and temperament.  This was the foundation of the line of Brittany’s we breed today.

We have been successful in producing several wonderful litters.  Our first litter of five pups produced four Champions and three Hunt Test titled dogs.  We have produced a Winners Bitch and Best of Winners at the American Brittany Club National Specialty.   We have had many placements at the Futurity level including a regional Best of Opposite sex, Second and Third money placements and a National Best of Opposite.

We were awarded Winners Dog and Best of Winners at the American Brittany Club Summer Specialty in 1999.  In 2001, we had a wonderful year winning an Award of Merit at both the National Specialty Show and at The Westminster Kennel Club.  We have since produced dogs that are of the quality that are completive at the National level.  We have Many Champions to our credit as well as Hunting titled dogs.   Now Annie's children are producing wonderful dogs as well.

We certify all of our dogs through OFA (The Orthopedic Foundation for Animals).  We are CERF (canine eye registration foundation) testing our dog as well.  We choose a stud dog that will improve or enhance the qualities in our bitches.  We breed for temperament and good health and try our best to improve the breed by producing dog that are sound in body and mind.   All of our pups are examined by a Veterinarian receive their first puppy vaccinations and are wormed before they leave our home.  We offer an ownership agreement as well as advice and support for the life of your pup.  We begin the crate training and house braking process.  Our pups are well socialized.  They are temperament tested and Conformation evaluations are done by breeders of both Brittany’s and other Breeds.  References are available upon request.

Adoption process –

We average about one litter per year and usually have a waiting list.  We have a questionnaire for you to fill out.   This helps us determine what you are looking for in a dog.  Our requirements are that if you are in reasonable driving distance from our home, you come to visit with us and our dogs.  We meet and exchange information.   After our meeting if you would like to adopt a puppy, we require a $50 deposit.  This will ensure you a spot on our waiting list.  This deposit is refundable up until the puppies reach 2 weeks old.  The cost of our puppies varies depending on the stud and type of breeding.

We are with these pups for 8 weeks before they leave to go to their new homes.  We pride ourselves in being able to match a puppy to the people that are on our list.  You can visit the pups soon after they are born and as often as you like after that.  Make sure that you don’t fall in love with one puppy.  That may be the one we decide to keep or the one that the stud owner want to keep.  Once those decisions are made at about 7 ˝ weeks, then in order in which your questionnaires are received will you be given the opportunity to allow us to help guide you to the best pup for you.

You will receive a well socialized, healthy, AKC registerable puppy, a pedigree, a copy of the OFA certificate of the parents, our ownership agreement, a puppy packet with tons of information on care of puppies and our continued support in you venture with your new puppy.  We would like to keep in contact with all of our puppy’s homes for the life of the pup.  Please don’t hesitate to contact us for questions or concerns.  We care about the pups we breed and the people they go to.

We abide by the American Brittany Club Code of Ethics and the Lehigh Valley Kennel Club’s Code of Ethics which are printed below.

AMERICAN BRITTANY CLUB CODE OF ETHICS

Adopted November 30, 1996

The following principles are to be used as an educational guide and a tool for Brittany breeders for the purpose to develop more genetic and disease free dogs, while being ethical in all matters with the public and with our peers.

Objective and Purpose

To promote cooperation and friendship among the breeders and owners of Brittany’s and to encourage higher standards in breeding, training and showing of Brittany’s in the field and in the show ring; to discourage the breed from becoming split into groups of "field dogs" and "show dogs" and to strive to keep it forever a "dual dog".

Ethical breeders should:

1. Comply with all ABC and AKC rules and regulations.

2. Maintain a high standard of health, care, and cleanliness for dogs under one's care.

3. Truthfully and realistically represent the Brittany being bred and/or sold in terms of quality, health, and genetic history. Refrain from breeding a bitch or using a stud until they are two (2) years old.

4. Consult with your breeder and with knowledgeable, experienced members of the ABC, regional clubs, or local kennel clubs to broaden your understanding and knowledge of the history of the breed BEFORE breeding your Brittany.

5. Breed only stock which are physically and temperamentally sound and in good health. No dog or bitch should be bred that is known to have serious inheritable defects or genetic diseases, such as:

bullet canine hip/elbow dysplasia, primary epilepsy, a seizure disorder,
bullet eye disorders - retinal atrophy, undescended testicles,
bullet heart defects, extreme shyness, viciousness, other inheritable diseases or defects

6. Not attempt breeding without the ability to distinguish between correct and incorrect physical attributes. This ability requires a careful study of the breed standard, principles of genetics, and a study of both the sire and the dam's pedigrees. Breeders should study and learn the good points within our dogs, looking to both field ability and conformation.

7. Have their breeding stock OFA (Orthopedic Foundation for Animals), GDC (Genetic Disease Control) or PennHip certification numbers for hips on, at least, both the sire and the dam; preferably for three (3) generations on both sides of the pedigree. In addition, other tests (brucellosis, eyes, elbows, and other unspecified tests) should be declared in agreement between owners of the sire and the dam prior to breeding.

8. Refuse to sell to commercial wholesalers, retail brokers, or research laboratories.

9. Have tails docked and dew claws removed soon after birth. Prior to the sale of the puppies, initial shots for known infectious diseases should be given and worming administered. A buyer should be supplied with a four- (4) generation pedigree, registration certificate, information on all veterinary care, and instructions for the care, feeding, and training of the Brittany.

10. Remember your responsibility, as a breeder does not end with the sale of the puppy. A breeder should have contact with the buyer of a pup throughout the life of the dog. This information will enhance breeding knowledge and improve the foundation for a good long-term breeding program. This will also help your regional club to grow with new members and possible participants and workers.

11. Use spay/neuter agreements and/or consider limited registration if it is known or believed to manifest hereditary defects detrimental to the breed. THE LONG TERM INTEREST OF THE BRITTANY SHOULD BE THE GOAL OF EVERY BREEDER.

12. Consider DNA finger printing for all dogs in your breeding programs.

Vision and Code of Ethics

The LVKC's Vision Statement:
To promote responsible ownership and enjoyment of pure-bred dogs through education, training and AKC-sanctioned events.

The LVKC's Code of Ethics:
I will become familiar with, and abide by the rules of the American Kennel Club and the AKC Standard(s) of my breed.
I will strive in my breeding program to improve the breed to conform more closely to the standard. I shall not engage in the wholesaling of litters, or the selling of stock to such places as pet dealers, catalog houses or other commercial sources of distribution.
I will offer at public stud only those dogs which, in my judgment, are an attribute to the breed, and will allow their use only on purebred registered bitches.
A puppy or adult showing a serious deviation from the Standard, rendering it unsuitable for breeding, shall be neutered or sold without papers. This shall be clearly understood by the buyer, and I shall have a signed statement to that effect.  All other puppies or adults shall be registered or eligible for registration with the AKC, and the purchaser shall be provided with accurate and valid papers.
All puppies and adults shall be sold in a clean and healthy condition, and shall be old enough to make the necessary adjustment to a new home safely. No adult or puppy shall be sold without adequate protection against disease.
I shall not use the Club for personal gain or profit.
